Portrait Mona Barbagli .jpg

"I reflect and observe individual behaviors, often using myself as a guinea pig, in the hope of grasping the full depth of human nature. Humans are as unpredictable as they are complex. Emotions (translated into color in my work) are what give life its greatest intensity, the echo of the unconscious impulse of the heart that drives us to Be. I am interested in these sensations, their mechanisms of integration, and their diffusion.
My practice is governed by a sensitive and structured analysis of the inner world and its interaction with the outer world. I often use protocols and a system of series. Multiplicity allows for the uncovering of collective patterns while highlighting individual variations.
The materials I use serve as vectors of feelings. My works offer viewers either an observation of the other—an echo of ourselves—a pause on states of consciousness, or an invitation to act with awareness of our internal mechanisms."

Gaston Bachelard:
"Reality is not what we see, but what we do not see. It is the invisible events of the world that bind visible things together."

Mona Barbagli is a visual artist whose work explores the human experience and the interconnectedness between our inner and outer worlds. She delves into emotions, memories, and the invisible forces that shape our lives. Positioned as an observer, she uses her own experiences as a mirror to understand what drives us internally, inviting the viewer to reflect on their feelings and the hidden forces behind our gestures and thoughts.

Born in 1995 in Nice, Mona Barbagli spent her childhood in the mountains, an immersion that profoundly influenced her perception of the natural world and fueled her quest for introspection. She graduated from the École des Beaux-Arts de Monaco and later from the École des Beaux-Arts de Nantes, where she honed her artistic practice centered on the exploration of materiality and human emotions.

In her works, Mona employs a wide range of materials—such as fabric, wood, wax, or glass—for their ability to convey sensations and states of mind. These materials become mediums to express what words cannot, translating emotions and feelings suspended in time. Each material has its own evocative power, contributing to her quest to make the invisible visible.

Another significant aspect of her work is her use of multiplicity. Mona Barbagli frequently relies on protocols and series of works, a process that reveals collective dynamics while emphasizing individual variations. This approach invites a deeper understanding of the patterns underlying our perceptions while celebrating the richness of each element when considered individually.

Time is also a major theme in her work. Mona explores how the passage of time manifests through the traces we leave behind. For her, time is not merely something to endure but a constant presence that shapes and molds the present moment while propelling us into the future. Understanding time means embracing it as a friend that helps us evolve. In her works, she seeks to capture and suspend time to better comprehend the present and build awareness of our internal patterns.

Light also holds a central place in her work. Not only does it reveal the hidden beauty of materials, but it also serves as a metaphor for the source of life. Light, in a spiritual sense, symbolizes the inner force that guides us in our exploration of the world. Through light, Mona seeks to unveil invisible dimensions, enriching the viewer's experience and inviting them to open themselves to new perceptions.

Her works remind us that time, nature, and our beings are deeply intertwined. Through various forms, Mona invites us to become aware of these connections and embrace the transformative process that is an integral part of existence.
